Industrial design is one of the most important legal tools available to protect a company’s industrial property. Basically, industrial designs serve to protect the aesthetic aspects of products or their packaging. The shape of a bottle of tequila, a brush or the layout of a mobile application, among others, can be protected by means of an industrial design register.
The Hague Convention for the Protection of Industrial Design is a tool that facilitates the registration of an industrial model at international level, through the submission of a single international application, which is transmitted to one or some of the member countries.
In accordance with a recent agreement, Mexico officially joins as a member of the Hague System, which will enter into force on June 6.
This opens the doors to both national and international companies and designers to protect their industrial designs more easily and incur lower costs.
