Carlos Ernesto Martínez Montoya is an attorney with experience in corporate law, labor law, strategic litigation, regulatory compliance, and legal advisory services for companies, national organizations, and international institutions.

 

He currently serves as a Corporate Attorney at VILA Abogados, where he participates in providing comprehensive legal advice to domestic and foreign companies. His practice focuses on corporate law, corporate governance, contract drafting and review, client negotiations, structuring legal transactions, coordinating corporate matters, and providing strategic support for business decision-making.

 

Before joining VILA, he coordinated the legal department at CEREAL (Centro de Reflexión y Acción Laboral), where he led a team of attorneys and developed litigation, negotiation, and advocacy strategies in labor and human rights matters. During this period, he coordinated projects with international organizations, multinational companies, and civil society organizations, participating in initiatives related to human rights grievance mechanisms, corporate due diligence, and labor rights protection.

 

His professional experience also includes working with UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and various civil society organizations. In these roles, he contributed to projects involving international protection, local integration, information analysis, case management, and institutional coordination with government authorities and international organizations. During his time at UNHCR, he strengthened his skills in data analysis and database management through tools such as Power BI, complementing his ability to make evidence-based decisions and optimize operational processes.

 

He has represented Mexican organizations in high-level international forums related to business and human rights, participating in working meetings and dialogues with specialists, civil society organizations, and decision-makers in Vienna, Austria, and Berlin, Germany. He also participated in initiatives promoted by Georgetown University focused on the social and labor impacts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening human rights protection mechanisms and corporate accountability.

 

Throughout his career, he has also participated as a speaker, facilitator, and institutional representative in national and international conferences, workshops, and professional meetings. In addition, he has given interviews to national and international media outlets on labor rights, migration, business, and human rights.

 

Earlier in his career, he practiced law independently for several years, advising and representing individuals and companies in civil, commercial, labor, administrative, and constitutional matters. This experience enabled him to develop strong skills in negotiation, litigation, and the strategic resolution of disputes.

 

His professional background combines experience in specialized law firms, international organizations, civil society organizations, and private practice, allowing him to provide legal advice with a strategic, preventive, and results-oriented approach to companies and their operations.

Throughout his professional career, Carlos Ernesto Martínez Montoya has participated in legal and strategic projects of national and international scope, combining experience in the private sector, international organizations, and civil society organizations.

Legal Leadership and Coordination

He coordinated the Legal Department at CEREAL, leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for legal strategy, legal representation, and the comprehensive management of labor and human rights matters.

He supervised the legal assistance and support provided to approximately 300 individuals, implementing litigation, negotiation, and dispute-resolution strategies.

 

International Projects

He coordinated the development of the Human Rights Grievance Mechanisms Project, carried out in collaboration with the German automotive industry. The project promoted the implementation of corporate due diligence mechanisms and the strengthening of corporate governance in relation to human rights.

He participated in international meetings held in Vienna, Austria, and Berlin, Germany, representing Mexican organizations in dialogues on business and human rights, international cooperation, and corporate responsibility.

 

Strategic Engagement

He participated in international initiatives related to the social and labor impacts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, collaborating with organizations such as Dignity and Südwind, as well as specialists from Georgetown University, to promote respect for human rights in major sporting events.

He institutionally represented his organization in meetings with specialists, international organizations, and public-sector stakeholders from Europe and North America to exchange good practices in the field of business and human rights.

He has participated as a speaker, facilitator, and institutional representative in national and international forums.
